Frequently Asked Questions
What do you charge?
Fees are normally quoted and agreed in advance
before any work is done. Payment is expected
at delivery. If I’m doing the same type of work
as another CPA, generally you can expect the
fees to be about the same. My feeling is
“Routine work deserves no more than routine
fees. Let me do something creative for you”.
I generally don’t consider hourly rates to be a
valid way to price professional services, (unless
there is no other way to calculate or estimate
compensation) since you don’t care whether I
spend a little bit of time or a lot, only that I
performed the service, or that I accomplished
savings.
My goal is to consider the value of the work.
If it took me 2 hours to save you $10,000 in
taxes, that’s worth a lot more than if I spent 20
hours to save you $1000, and I would bill
accordingly. Agree?
Some engagements, such as IRS controversy or
examinations cannot be quoted in advance, but
an estimate will be provided, an hourly rate
agreed, and a retainer paid before representation
can begin.
