Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between a CPA
and a Tax Specialist?
CPA’s are a gifted and competent group of
diverse individuals, and I am proud to be a CPA.
All doctors are competent, but some obtain more
training and education in a specialized area than
others. That doesn’t make a General Practitioner
any less smart or capable than a Surgeon. Both
have a role to play in your healthcare, but you
don’t go to one when you need the other.

The average CPA took one, perhaps two courses
in college. (I only had one tax course before
being fully licensed as a CPA.) In contrast, a
Masters in Taxation, or the Law School
equivalent, an LLM, requires ten tax-only
courses at the graduate school level. The
difference in difficulty, breadth and depth cannot
be expressed!

The world of a CPA is broad and requires
knowledge from many different fields, including
auditing and accounting, business law,
accounting systems, tax and too many more to
name. Keeping up with any one area is difficult;
it is extremely difficult to be an expert in more
than one.
